Amazon’s sales rose 26% in the first quarter as the COVID-19 crisis made the online retailer an even bigger part of many lives, but profits were down 30% due to expenses from dealing with the virus. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos gave a clear message to shareholders, saying they “may want to take a seat,” because there are big challenges ahead and they won’t be easy or cheap to overcome. The company says it will spend billion this quarter on initiatives related to the pandemic.

Amazon’s headcount has grown by a staggering amount?over the last few years. Its employment numbers increased close to 10 percent in the last three months?and 47 percent over a year ago, when its employee count stood at a paltry-by-comparison 183,100 people. That’s an increase of 85,800 employees?in one year — more than the entire city of Bellingham, Wash.

Among the total, 108,683 were serving for Chinese airlines and the other 272 were mostly working for general aviation companies, said the 2019 statistics report on flight attendant development in the Chinese civil aviation industry released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Amid effective pandemic prevention and control measures, China reported consecutive growth in power consumption as business activity was further restored, said the National Development and Reform Commission earlier this month.
